Work-aways

The work-away really took me out of my comfort zone: Combining humanistic, spiritual and reflective moments with discussions and seminars on business and sustainability challenges. There was opportunity to exchange experiences and challenges with the other participants in a relaxed family atmosphere, creating open dialogs and meet people from divergent backgrounds and professions. What becomes exceeding clear after a weekend work-away is that there are significant challenges for business and society that will require extensive changes in the way business is conducted, politicians act and people behave. My hope for the best- expect the worst conclusion: On one hand I am encouraged by meeting others with similar values and ambitions, my own and other companies efforts to change, and the increased discourse on sustainability. In the other hand, is the insight that the radical changes required in economic systems and resultant radical change required in lifestyles will be victims of the tragedy of the commons.

The work-away was a truly transformative experience. 2 days of immersion in a wide variety of subjects from Ecology, Agronomy, Philosophy to Spirituality in the company of fellow participants that themselves came from a wide variety of professional backgrounds. The first step in making any changes is shifting perspective and the work-away allowed everyone to express their differences and thrive on the exchange of diverse viewpoints. And all this in an iconic setting in the French countryside with excellent cuisine and fabulous Blues musicians. The current energy crisis only reinforces how urgently we need a paradigm shift to address ecologic and economic challenges heading our way and the work-away as such ties into one of the fundamental aspects of the Renaissance: bridging the gap between expert knowledge to create a holistic understanding of the world and its challenges. A great Experience !

Synge work-away gives you the chance to meet with key stakeholders of an industry, but, at the opposite of classical business trips or in trade shows, the combination of work, nature, cultural heritage and burgundy wines sparks a long term willingness to collaborate. Definitely a humanist version of modern capitalism.
